Excerpts from a family history by Joseph Alonzo Wheeler:
Andrew Stiggins was a machinist, having served his apprenticeship under his father, William Stiggins. At the time of his marriage to Emily Hobbs he was working as a machinist for the Government Railway Shops in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada.
In 1895 the family moved to Anchorage, Texas and became landowners. In August of 1906 they sold all of their holdings and in November made a visit back to Boston. They stayed only three months before returning to Anchorage. Andrew then secured a job at Devine, Texas where he was placed in charge of a large, cotton gin. He stayed there four years. In 1911 they moved to Sue, Texas and bought 176 acres of land. Andrew was building the home on the place when he was fatally stricken on July 1, 1911. He was buried at Anchorage.
