Family-Placed Obituary
Published in the Austin American-Statesman on 6/19/2004.

Florence Anderson Schmidt passed away June 18. She was 95. Florence was born February 20, 1909 in the Type Community of Williamson County to Oscar and Annie Samuelson, one of eight children. In 1930 she married Gene Anderson, and they lived at Manor for several years before purchasing a farm at Elgin, where they lived until Gene's death in 1966. Florence then moved to Austin and worked in the Littlefield Dormitory on the University of Texas campus until her retirement. In 1975 she married Henry Schmidt, who died in 1999. Florence was a life-long member of the Evangelical Free Church of America. Her most recent attendance was at Trinity EFC (now Hope Bible Fellowship). In earlier years she attended church at the Type and Kimbro communities and then the Crestview and Trinity churches in Austin. She taught Sunday School for many years, sang in the choir, was part of a church trio, and participated in all the activities of the women's group. She will be remembered as devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend. Florence was preceded in death by her two husbands, Gene Anderson and Henry Schmidt; parents, Oscar and Annie Samuelson; and six brothers and sisters including Alfred Samuelson, Phillip Samuelson, Herbert Samuelson, Esther Hanson, Alice Gustafson, and Mabel Harton. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Genelle and Larry Schlickeisen; two grandsons, David and Wayne Schlickeisen; and four great-grandchildren, Daniel Schlickeisen, Melissa Tully, Kevin and Casey Schlickeisen; sister, Mary Kunze; two step-grandsons and wives, Jimmy and Kodie Bird and Jeff and Julie Rathbone; and many nieces and nephews and friends. Special thanks to the staff at Park Bend Health Care (especially Jennie and David) for the excellent care provided to Florence during her residency there and to Odyssey Health Care, who provided loving assistance during her last week of life. Thanks also to friends and family who visited, sent cards and flowers, and who gave encouragement and support. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden / Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville on Sunday, June 20, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Cook- Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
