Son of Alfred Slay and Nancy Collins.
Alfred Slay, enlisted on May 26, 1861 at Corinth, Mississippi when he was 19 years old. He was born in Hinds County, Mississippi, was five feet eleven inches tall, had blue eyes, dark hair, and a fair complexion. He was killed at the Battle of Sharpsburg, Maryland on September 17, 1865.
Those killed during this battle, were sent to the Washington Cemetery in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland.
The confederate section is known as the Rose Hill and is located within the confines of the Washington Cemetery. His name is not listed on the known burial roster, but it is possible he is burined in the mass grave sections, which are divided by states.

Rest easy cousin Alfred. I am sorry I could not find your grave at Hagerstown, but know we left flowers at the confederate monument. Thank you for your service and giving this country the ultimate sacrifice.
