Son of Phillip McCarty and Ethel Williams McCarty.
Husband of Reba Clements McCarty. They were married Dec. 1952 in Harrison , Arkansas.
To this union two sets of twins were born.
John and Timothy at North Kansas City, Mo and Daniel and Christopher at Osceola, Mo.

Cecil O. McCarty, 78, Flemington, died Friday, May 9, 2008 at his home after a long battle with leukemia. The son of Phillip and Ethel (Williams) McCarty, he was born at Kingman, Kansas August 14, 1929.

He grew up in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri in and around Springfield and Ava. While living in Douglas County, Cecil went to the Owen Drive-In Theater, near Ava, one night where he met his beloved wife, Reba. The opening lines of the courtship (after Cecil gently tugged on Reba's long hair while sitting behind her) were "Gee, you have pretty hair." To which Reba replied, "Keep your hands to yourself." In less than a year they were married. Cecil and Reba were happily married for 55 years this past December 23.

Following their marriage Cecil and Reba moved to North Kansas City, Missouri where Cecil worked for United States Gypsum for several years. He then worked for Sellers and Marcus Roofing Co. for several years before opening his own roofing company.

After retiring Cecil and Reba came to live in the Flemington area for 30 years. Cecil proudly owned gamefowl for most of his adult life. He admired their beauty, courage and the fact that the gamecock would not quit. He was also an avid gardener. He was of the Protestant faith.

His parents, Phillip and Ethel McCarty, a brother, Earl Hyde, and a sister, Jewel Hyde; two sons, Timothy and Christopher McCarty; and a nephew, Martin McCarty, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Reba; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Merry McCarty, Stockton, and Daniel and Blenda McCarty, Flemington; 1 grandson, Nathan McCarty; two sisters, Lucille Reynolds and Doris Reynolds, both of Springfield, as well as other family and friends.

Cecil was very proud of this two sons and grandson. He was also very grateful to his Oxford Health caregivers, Heather and Teresa, as well as the nurses of CMH Cancer Center and his kind doctor, Dr. Leo Shunyukov.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 14, 2008 in Murray Funeral Home, Bolivar. Interment will follow in Clintonville Cemetery at El Dorado Springs. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
