John G. "Jack" Ashby, 83, of Sterling Heights, died Sunday, June 3, 2007, in his home with his loving family at his side. He was born March 15, 1924, in Hopwood, Pa.
Mr. Ashby served as a corporal and was honorably discharged with several military awards, including the Theatre Ribbon with three Bronze Stars for his service during World War II. He loved NASCAR racing, fishing, making fudge for the family and special crafts. Relatives said one of his greatest and final achievements was May 11, 2007, when he was baptized, made his first Holy Communion and Confirmation in the Catholic faith.
He is survived by his wife of more than 61 years, Lovella; children, John C. Ashby, Ronald T. (Brenda) Ashby and Gail L. (Joseph) Minjoe; sister, Lillian Rogge; grandchildren, Sandy, Ron Jr., Stacey (Steve) Kimbrell, John (Valarie) Ashby, Jacob (Carolyn) Ashby and Marcy (Punkin); and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held privately.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 6 p.m. Scripture service, at Walter Scott Skupny Funeral Home, 28605 Gratiot Ave. (two blocks south of 12 Mile Road), Roseville.
