Born on Nov. 22, 1934, in Booneville, Miss., he was a son of the late Herbert E. and Meriam Fughat Tays.
Ben was a graduate of Booneville High School and attended Northeast Mississippi Junior College, Booneville. He retired from the Kinney Shoe Corp. in 1998. He was a peacetime veteran in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne paratroopers stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky.
He was a member of the Elks BPO Lodge No. 547, the White Circle Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 1299, all of Carlisle.
Surviving are two brothers, M.A. Marty (Wanda) Tays of Baton Rouge, La., and Gene (Nita) Tays of Booneville, Miss.; three sisters, Anne T. (Ken) Lindsey, Coldwater, Miss., Virginia T. (Ed) Griffin of McComb, Miss., and Katherine T. (Tom) Greer, Cordova, Tenn.; several aunts, uncles and cousins; a special cousin and lifelong friend, Norman T. Young; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill (Mamie) Tays.
Services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 North Hanover St., Carlisle, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
