George R. Blain
(July 07, 1928 - June 08, 2010)

George R. Blain, age 81 of Joplin, Mo., formerly of Orange County California, passed away at his home 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010.

Born July 7, 1928 in Delaware, Ohio, he was son of the late Dewey and Georgia Converse Blain.

For 37 years, he owned and operated a janitorial business in Orange County, and for ten years, worked for the Yorba Linda (Calif.) School District.

He was also a professional artist. He did watercolor, pencil, oils, painting portraits, animals and landscapes.

A U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, he served overseas in Japan.

He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

He volunteered at Spiva Art Center, as a guide for George Washington Carver National Park, and as a reader of Joplin RVIII School District.

George actively supported Alcoholics Anonymous.

He married Vilma L. (Vel) Biggerstaff Blain on December 24, 1952 in Joplin. She preceded him in death on February 16, 1997.

He married Margaret Helen (Mimi) Holder Blain on May 16, 1998. She preceded him on July 28, 2006.

Four sisters and three brothers also preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Kirk D. Blain and wife Linda of Anaheim, Calif.; a daughter, Susan J. Collins of Paola, Kan.; a stepson, Howard E. Willis, Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Carole Wofford and husband Rickey of Diamond, Mo., Linda Gill and husband Wayne of Pensacola, Fla.; a brother, Russell Blain of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Patricia Radke of North Carolina; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 16th at Fellowship Baptist Church in Joplin with Rev. Steve Grace officiating, after which, the family will receive friends.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association or Alcoholics Anonymous in care of the mortuary.

Margaret Helen Blain, age 80, Joplin, passed away at 5:52 p.m. Friday, July 28, 2006, at Freeman West Hospital with her loved ones by her side.

Margaret was born March 25, 1926, in Ramona, Okla., to the late Roy Holder and Cola Carroll Holder.

She worked as a sales agent for Metropolitan Insurance Company for several years.

She was a loving wife; mother; grandmother; and great-grandmother.

She was an active volunteer with several area organizations, including GNOSIS (in which she served as past president); Joplin R-VIII School District Mentor Program; Freeman Health Systems; Joplin Senior Center; and both Boy and Girl Scouts of America.

She was a longtime member of Fellowship Baptist Church and volunteered her time there in the nursery; vacation bible school; and fellowship hall. She was active in the church choir and taught Sunday school with her husband, George.

She also found time for her sewing and knitting projects and playing her organ.

She married Howard E. Willis Sr. on Jan. 28, 1945, in Oklahoma City, Okla. He preceded her in death on June 14, 1965.

She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Norman Gene Moffett.

She married George Blain on May 16, 1998. He survives at the home.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Carole Wofford and husband, Rickey, Diamond and Linda Gill and husband, Wayne, Pensacola, Fla.; a son, Howard E. Willis Jr., Joplin; stepson, Kirk Blain and wife, Linda, Anaheim, Calif.; stepdaughter, Susan Blain, Paola, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; best friend, Evelene Spalding; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church. Rev. Steve Grace will officiate.

Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at Parker Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
