Charles R. "Chuck" Ales, 75, the Mayor of Frogtown, passed away at 12:55 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center at Pittsburg, Kansas.

Mr. Ales was born November 8, 1933 at Franklin, Kansas the 10th child of 13 children to Frank and Mary Sudolchan Ales.

Chuck was a retired school teacher who taught school in Chetopa, Erie, and Curtis Middle School, Southeast High School, and North High School, all in Wichita, until retiring in 1991 with 37 years of teaching. Chuck assisted many students with help in tuition and was an avid Mustang collector who owned the Mustang Museum at Frogtown.

He was raised at Franklin and attended Franklin Grade School later graduating from Arma High School. Chuck then attended Kansas State Teachers College, now PSU, and received a master's degree in mathematics.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army.

Chuck was a member and past commander of the Lon Helm Post #182 American Legion at Arma, the Kansas Teachers Association, the S.N.P.J. Lodge #225 at Arma, the PSU Alumni, and the Mustang Church of America and Museum at Frogtown.

Survivors include one son, Robert Brunch of Franklin, six sisters, Betty DeVoss of Frontenac, Eleanor Modderman of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Anna Irvin of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Mildred Ales of Ottawa, Kansas, Frances O'Banion of Pomona, Kansas, and Verna Hasselman of Kansas City, Missouri, one brother, Jim Ales of Clearwater, Kansas, and many nieces and nephews.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mary Belmonte, and four brothers, Tom, Bill, Frank and Eddie Ales.

According to his wishes Mr. Ales has been cremated.
