EVERETT, William Blount July 11, 1933 - October 12, 2011 Bill was born in Bath, NC. Bill was baptized in Bath Creek and has been a member of the Christian Church in Bath, NC, Clarksville, TN, El Paso, TX, Brownsville, TX, Laredo, TX, and Brandon. He received his AA from Austin Peay University. He also attended Texas Southmost, Laredo State University and USF. At USF in Tampa, he was a member of the National Criminal Justice Honor Society Alpha Phi Sigma. He entered the U.S. Border Patrol, class 60, at the Border Patrol Academy in El Paso, TX in 1955. He worked for the U.S. Justice Department in Immigration as a Border Patrol Agent, Supervisory BP Agent, Immigration Inspector, Anti-Smuggling Agent and Special Agent in the Immigration & Naturalization Service for 33 years. He received letters of commendation from President John F. Kennedy and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy for his service as Deputy Marshal at the University of Mississippi during the enrollment of the first black student, James Meredith, in 1962. Bill worked as an Immigration Officer at Chicago Ohare when it opened its International gates in 1960. He was one of the first three Special Agents in the U.S. Border Patrol in 1977. He received a special achievement award in 1979 for the longest surveillance and arrest of alien smugglers in INS history from Laredo to Chicago. He was as firearms instructor and taught Spanish and law for agents in their first year probationary period at the Border Patrol Academy in Port Isabel, TX. In 1973, Bill and his wife organized the AAU Laredo Competitive Swim Club for boys and girls. After retiring, he worked for Ebon and DynCorp and was attached to the DEA (drug enforcement) as a Data Analyst and as Asset Forfeiter for eleven years. He was Assistant Secretary to Spain for the International Police Assoc. for 6 years. Bill also taught Spanish at Center Place in Brandon. He was a member of many organizations: FORBO, International Police Assoc., Border Patrol Museum and Law Enforcement Alliance. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Meletha and his three children: Jacqueline Lee (Jim), Keith Everett (Sharon), and De'Anna Collins (Jack) and his eight grandchildren: Lucien Thompson lV (Makala), Margaret Thompson, Jeanne, Savannah and Randy Everett, and J.W., Burton, and Max Collins. Visitation will be held 4-6 pm Saturday, Oc. 15, 2011 at Presbyterian Church of Bloomingdale 710 East Bloomingdale Ave. A Funeral Service will be held 4:30 pm Sunday, Oct. 16, 2011 at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home 2323 West Brandon Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Border Patrol Museum El Paso, Texas.
