Lillian Vincent Wooding Burnley died at the Southside Regional Medical Center, Petersburg, VA. At age 3, she came to Wayne, PA to be raised by aunt, Lillian Royster Strothers. She was baptized at the age of 12 at the Second Baptist Church in Wayne, PA. There she was a member of the choir, Junior Usher Board and Sunday School.

Lillian Burnley graduated from Radnor Township, PA Schools with honors and then went to Traphagen School of Fashion, New York City in 1944. At the age of 22, on her return home, she established a dressmaking business in Wayne, PA and continued her entrepreneurship until 1998. In 1948, she married Thomas Benjamin Burnley of New York City. In 1958 the family established their residence in Wayne, PA until the family moved to Philadelphia in 1962.

Lillian worked for the Philadelphia School District as an Assistant Teacher in infants, toddlers, kindergarten and school age children for 13 years. She became an evening student at Philadelphia Temple University in the School of Liberal Arts where she earned an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education. Upon retiring from the Philadelphia School District, she moved to Dinwiddie, VA, to reside with her daughter. She joined the Little Zion Baptist Church, Carson, Va. There at Little Zion, Deaconess Burnley served the Lord in what ever capacity she could. She was an active member of the Missionary Ministry and a dedicated Sunday School teacher. Upon publishing the Deaconate Pulpit Preparation Manual in 2002, she was also called to chair the Deaconate. Her loving smile and kind ways will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her dearly.

A memorial celebration for Deaconess Lillian V. Burnley was held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2006, at the Little Zion Baptist Church, Carson, VA.
