Daniel was born 25 Sep 1854 at Orwell, Cambridgeshire, England to Samuel 1815-1856 and Eliza Chapman Gadd 1814-1892. He has a twin brother Isaac.
Daniel left England with his family 4 May 1856 on the ship "Thornton". The family were members of the James G. Willie handcart Company. They were late starting across the plains and were caught in early snow storms resulting in the deaths of many in the company including Daniel,his father Samuel and 10 year old brother Samuel, all three died within 20 days of each other, leaving Eliza and the six other children to go on by themselves.
Daniel died 4 Oct 1856 at the age of 2 near Cassa, Platte, Wyoming, and is buried there.
