Son of Joseph Mosley Buckland and Hannah Daggett Buckland. As a young man he was a passenger on the Mormon emigrant Ship Brooklyn. A farmer by trade his work on the "New Hope Farm Project" led to a personal conflict with Samuel Brannan. He married Nancy Laura Aldrich. In July of 1849 Alondus took his wife, a new-born daughter and his mother-in-law, Prudence Aldrich and escorted the "gold train" to Salt Lake City.
He died of cholera while returning to Utah after completing an LDS Mission to the Eastern States.
