71 Years of Age
Although born in Dallas he and his family moved to Houston, Texas when he was a child. Before entering the Marine Corps he graduated Jefferson Davis High School in Houston.
He applied to both the Houston Police Department and The Houston Fire Department, The Houston Fire Department called him first and he joined them in 1963 quickly rising in rank becoming a Captain.
Captain "V" as he was affectionately known was a unique person. Forgoing promotions that would have taken him out of the firefighting aspect of the job, he chose to stay at the fire station. He loved the fire station life and all that entailed - including the actual fire fighting. Although suffering a serious crash in the 1970's in which he had to overcome head injuries, he returned to the job he loved. He attained another nickname, "Nails". Referring to his tough as nails demeanor.
As the 1990's arrived he soon became a mentor to the young firefighters coming up the ranks.
A very respected and much loved firefighter, he was a man who was an obvious family man. A much loved Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather.

Father of Gudalupe Medina, deceased, Gilbert Villareal, Jr., Esther Lopez, (husband Gilbert), Albert Villareal (wife Sandra), Maribel Pedraza, (husband Fernando). Brother of Robert Villareal, (wife Mary), Raymond Faz (wife Anna), Jesse Faz, (wife Kathy), and Jane Faz. Grandfather of, Michael Medina, (wife Abby), Stephen, Brandon and Vincent Lopez and Miles Villareal. Four great grand children.
Cause of Death: Complications of a brain aneurysm
Cremated, Ashes given to family or friend.
