Houston Fire Department
1895-1945. Houston Volunteer
1887-1895-Protection No. 1 and Curtin No. 9. Retired in 1945 at the age of 78. He was called the "Grand old man of the fire department". He decided to make fire-fighting his career even before the department used horses for hauling its equipment. He loved being kidded by the younger firemen. One other living fireman, R. F. Ollre, had served as long as Mr. Donnelly did. He requested a new uniform shortly before his death. Fire Chief Whittlesey provided that uniform and he was laid to rest in it.
Husband of Jeanette Donneley. Father of E. H. Donneley, Marvin H. Ellis, Mrs. Stanley Newberg, Mrs. John Petrosky, Mrs. Tony Dietz, and Mrs. Georgia Latimer.
