Hershel Watson, age 71, of Choctaw, Oklahoma, died December 13, 2010 at his land in Calvin, surrounded by his family. He was one of 9 children born in Sparta, North Carolina. On December 21, 1957, he married Beverly Boren in Fort Worth, Texas. She survives. Hershel served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1978, achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant as an air traffic control supervisor. He received many awards for his service in the Vietnam War, including the Bronze Star. After he retired from the Air Force, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 27 years. Hershel was an active member of the Eastside Church of Christ. He was a board member of the National Wildlife Turkey Federation and was Vice President of Postal Union, Local 324. He was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, and wildlife conservationist. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Pam and David Holt of Choctaw; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and David DeLand of Choctaw; daughter, Jill Watson-Smith of Choc-taw; and son and daughter-in-law, David and Merri Watson of Norman, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Hershel is also survived by brother, Roger Watson and wife Becky; and brother, Jerry Watson of Harrah; as well as numerous other loving family members and friends. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, December 18th, at the Eastside Church of Christ, located at 916 S. Douglas in Midwest City, Oklahoma. A heart-felt thanks from the family to Ross Healthcare/Hospice and especially to Dana Mobly, R.N., his hospice nurse and loving sister-in-law, as well as the staff at the Oklahoma City Veterans Medical Center.
