Gregory V. Cabell, 53, of Charlottesville, Virginia, departed this life on Sunday, August 15, 2010, in Daytona Beach, Florida.

He was born in Petersburg, Virginia, on February 13, 1957, the son of Henry and Ruth Cabell of Charlottesville. He was the husband of Darlene P. Cabell.

He dedicated his life to Christ at an early age and became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Later in life he joined Mount Zion First African Baptist Church, where he was an active member of the Men's Ministry. He was a graduate of Charlottesville High School Class of 1975 and attended Piedmont Virginia Community College. Greg retired after 23 years of service from the United States Army Reserves with the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a Lexus Nexus Purchasing Agent for 27 years. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, an avid golfer and played softball.

In addition to his beloved wife, Darlene P. Cabell, he leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Gregory Cabell Jr. and Christopher Johnson of Charlottesville, Virginia; one daughter, Amy Cabell; five brothers, Henry Cabell Jr. of Charlottesville, Virginia, Richard Cabell and his wife, Stephanie, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Wayne Cabell and his wife, Wanda, of Charlottesville, Virginia, Jonathan Cabell of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Joseph Cabell of Sam Houston, Texas.; one sister, Patricia Cabell of Charlottesville, Virginia; three grandchildren, Elijah Cabell, Isaiah Cabell, and Natrielle Johnson; a mother in-law, Corine Payne of Charlottesville, Virginia; a brother-in-law, Millard Payne; a sister in-law, Sharlene Chambliss; five devoted friends, Charles Jones, Alfred Loving, John Anderson, Chris Smith and Jeffrey Lloyd; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 21, 2010, at Mount Zion First African Baptist Church with Dr. Alvin Edwards officiating.

Interment at Holly Memorial Gardens.

The family expresses a special thank you to the Hospice of the Piedmont and the ALS Association.
