Staff Sergeant Kevin D. Grieco, 35, of Bartlett, Illinois. He graduated from Waynesville High School in Missouri in 1992 and earned a bachelor's degree at Aurora (Illinois) University in 2004. Kevin served 13 years in the Navy then five years in the Naval Reserves and in 2006 joined the Illinois National Guard. Kevin hated being indoors, in 2004, he earned a degree in recreational park administration from Aurora University and had worked as a contractor for a lawn-mowing company. An Eagle Scout, as an adult he stayed active in the Boy Scouts Organization, serving as a scout master and mentor to teenage boys. Kevin had desired to do more for his country, perhaps even becoming an officer in the military. He said he would die three times as long as it's serving his country. Currently assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 122nd Field Artillery, Illinois Army National Guard, Sycamore, Illinois, Kevin was deloyed to Afghanistan in August to provide training to Afghanistan troops. He was killed by a suicide bomber at a police headquarters in northern Afghanistan. His Military Medals include the Meritorious Unit Commendation; Navy "E" (2); Good Conduct; National Defense Service Medal (2); Armed Frcs Exped; AFSM; Sea Svc Deployment (2); AFRSEM w/"M" Device; Army Basic Parachutist Insignia; Enlisted Surface Warfare Insignia; and Outstanding Volunteer Service. Kevin is survived by his wife, Rashmi; children, Joshua and Angeli; his parents, Col. Ralph (retired) and Linda Grieco; sister, Jennifer Grieco Burch; brothers-in-law, Chad Burch and Ajit Chawathe; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Kevin wished to be buried at Arlington, the same as his grandfather Captain John A. Grieco.
