On March 16, 2013, after battling sickness, Lawrence was released from his chains and went home to be with his maker.
Lawrence M. Collins was born December 10, 1925 in Wisconsin, the tenth of twelve children.
Growing up with ten sisters and one brother, Lawrence joined the navy when he was 17 years old and was stationed around the world.
On October 3, 1951, he married his wife LaVeda Wasson at the Palm Café in McMinnville. They moved to Carlton where they raised a daughter and two sons.
Lawrence loved hunting, fishing, being a practical jokester, and spending time with his family including his five granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.
Lawrence is survived by his daughter, Deborah Barrow of Carlton and son, Jeff Collins of Carlton. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVeda in 2011 and stepson, Terry Lay in 2012.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 20 at 11:00am at the Assembly of God Church in Carlton-437 S. Third St.
