Frances McCarthy Meiggs, 87, a resident of Pine Bluff, died Monday, January 21, 2013, at White Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born May 22, 1925, in Pine Bluff, she was a Daughter of Thomas Francis and Ruth Johnson McCarthy.
Mrs. Meiggs was Reared and received her early Education in Pine Bluff; Graduating from Pine Bluff High School.
She was a United States Army/ AirCorps Veteran of World War II.
Mrs. Meiggs was a Flight Attendant for the Chicago Southern Airline and flew the First Commercial Flight to land at Grider Field.
Frances Ruth McCarthy Married Ernest Ansel Meiggs on January 15, 1950, in Pine Bluff.
Mrs. Meiggs worked in Computer Operations for Cheesborough Ponds, Retiring in 1980.
She was a Trained Weather Observer and Weather Station Manager for Grider Field.
She also worked part-time at Trinity Village in Health and Fitness.
She was a two-time employee of the month at Trinity Village.
Mrs. Meiggs was a Member of Hawley Memorial United Methodist Church; and a Member of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.
Mrs. Meiggs was preceded in death by her Parents; her Husband, Ernest Ansel Meiggs.
Survivors include one Son, Edward Meiggs of Pine Bluff; one Daughter and Son In Law, Dorothy and Thornley Jobe of Lonoke; one Grandson, Thornley Jobe of San Antonio, TX; one Brother, Thomas Francis McCarthy of Bastrop, LA; four Sisters, Kathryn Jackson of Hot Springs Village; Mary Taylor of Conway; Evelyn Brabston of Pine Bluff; and Elizabeth McCarthy-Kuhn of Tucson, AR.
The Memorial Service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 26, 2013, at Hawley Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev Jackie Gregory Officiating; and under the Direction of Ralph Robinson & Son.
