| Birth: | Sep. 16, 1931 | | Death: | Jul. 4, 2010 |  Katie Maple, widow of James Maple, died July 4, 2010, at George Washington University Hospital, Washington, D.C. She was born Sept. 16, 1931, in Sumter, to the late Carl and Mary Lee Haynesworth.
She attended the Sumter County public schools and was a domestic worker until her retirement.
Mrs. Maple was a lifelong member of Allen Chapel AME Church, serving in the capacity as a missionary and on other church auxiliaries. She always possessed a kind and loving heart towards everyone. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family members.
Surviving are five children, Maggie Zimmerman and Louise Maple of Washington, D.C., Lillie Willis of Hattiesburg, Miss., Edward (Joyce) Maple of Clinton, Md., and Pat Wright of Forney, Texas; eight grandchildren, Carolyn Jones, Dwayne Willis, Nicole Wright, Floyd Wright Jr., Janise Maple, Edward Maple Jr., James Maple III and Jamal Maple; two great-grandchildren, Shakerra Jones and Kiya Wright; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, James Maple Jr.; and five siblings, Carl Haynesworth, Arthur Haynesworth, Marie Winn, Thomas Haynesworth and Wilhemenia Bowman.
Funeral services at Allen Chapel AME Church, 471 Lynam Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Timothy Cokely, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Harold O. Wilson, eulogist.
Interment will follow in Allen Chapel cemetery.
