Marjorie E. Cannon, age 88 of Brooklyn, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 7, 2013, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn with Fr. Philip Ryan officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn with a Prayer Service and Rosary recited at 7 P.M. A memorial fund has been established.
Marjorie is survived by her children, Joe (Patricia) of Murrieta, CA, Jim (Donna) of Sioux Falls, SD, John of Brooklyn, Tom of Urbana, Mary Cataldo (Mike) of Chaska, MN, Rita Sauer (Kent) of Center Point, and Teresa Kriegel (Phil) of Brooklyn; eighteen grandchildren, Joey Cannon, Laurie (Boris) Ilic, Matt (Meg) Cannon, Marymelina (Josh) Schwarz, Patrick Cannon, Christina (Tim) Johnson, John Ryan (Dana) Cannon, Dan Cataldo, Missy Cataldo, Shelly (Paul) Link, Tim (Trisha) Lamb, Mike (Angie) Lamb, Micki (Justin) Willman, Scott (Shelly) Sauer, Adam Sauer, Amber (Pat) Coleman, Ashley (Adam) Krebill and Steven Kriegel; and 25 great-grandchildren, Mallaurie, Alissa, Annmarie, Joseph Thomas, Caryn, Ethan, Madi, Jack, Ashten, Aidan, Adelynn, Gavyn, Owen, Skyler, Jordan, Lucas, Logan, Layne, Hunter, Payton, Alexa, Dominic, Aliana, Averee, and Aidan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse Francis Cannon in 1988, a sister Maxine Wenger, and a brother Max Ryan.
Marjorie Ellen Ryan was born November 1, 1924 in Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Edna Ostrom Ryan. She attended the Poweshiek county schools and graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1942. Marjorie married Francis Cannon on April 25, 1946 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Belle Plaine, Iowa. Besides being a homemaker, wife and mother, Marjorie worked as a beautician, and at several grocery stores, and did wallpapering. Marjorie enjoyed going dancing with Francis, bowling, playing cards and traveling. She cherished the time she spent with her family and friends, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marjorie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 63 years, and volunteered at the Iowa City VA for over 5,000 hours. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn.
