FAMILY IMMIGRATION:
The story of the Falk's immigration to America is an amazing story. Enar Tenggren wrote an article in Sweden titled "The Falk Family and Julatorpet" which tells the story. Ingrid Falk's first husband, Anders Peter (Jonasson) [1822-1868] Falk died right in the middle of a terrible famine. Ingrid was left with five boys and struggled to feed them. She wrote to America and asked for help from Jonas Peter Falk [father of her late husband] and the Linn family. The Americans raised and sent Ingrid enough money to purchase passage for her five boys, but not enough for her. So she went to the local Hovmantorp municipal government and pleaded for help. Surprisingly during those terrible times they acquiesced:

The minutes of a special meeting of the Hovmantorp Municipal Assembly held 18 April 1869 states:

"The widow Falk and her five children have decided to leave the church and as a contribution to travel to their travel to America, we have decided to give them forty Riksdaler riksmynt."

C. Tellander. (Adjusted by J. Lindkvist, Otto Johansson.)

The family first lived with Carl Linn and then moved onto property of their own in Chisago Lake Township for several years. They finally moved to Groton, SD to homestead on free government land. I believe that Sven had been buried in Glader for quite a while before he got a permanent headstone in 1910. The headstone was ordered from Groton by Lot Linn according to Bob Porter. Except for Sven, they are all buried in Augustana Cemetery north of Groton.

NOTE: A close examination of the new photograph added by khoward reveals a discrepancy between the date of birth engraved on the monument (13 Mars 1823) and that recorded in Swedish church records (13-9-1823). The September date also appears in a written biography of the family history.
