Funeral services for Sophie Ahrendsen, 93, of Oxford Junction were held on Sat.Jan.23 at the Hayden Funeral Home in Oxford Junction. The Rev. David Franker officiated.
Casket bearers were Robert Ahrendsen, Tony Regennitter, Tim Ahrendsen, Scott Ahrendsen, Matt Regennitter and Michael Ahrendsen.
Mrs. Ahrendsen died Wednesday, Jan 20, at the Wheatland Manor Care Facility in Wheatland.
She was born on Feb. 12, 1899 at Sterdebuell, Germany, the daughter of Andreas and Emma Ingwersen Friedrichsen. She was educated in Germany.
She came to the United States in 1927 and worked as a housekeeper on a farm near Oxford Junction. She married Hans Ahrendsen in Anamosa on Oct. 19, 1928. The couple farmed in the Wyoming and Oxford Junction area.
Hans died in 1975, but Sophie continued to live on the farm until entering the care facility on Jan 3, 1993.
She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Oxford Junction and had been a longtime member of the Sunshine Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Warren (Dorothy) Summy of Cedar Rapids, two sons, Erwin of Oxford Junction and Dr. Donald of Ottawa, IL; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three half-brothers, Emil Friedrichsen of Loveland, CO; Fritz Friedrichsen and Johann Friedrichsen both of Husum, Germany.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, one half-brother and four half-sisters.
