Bill Baker, 81, passed away August 21, 2013 at the Mercy Hospice Johnston.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013, at Emmanuel United Methodist in Granger, per Bill's wishes. Burial will follow at Beaver Catholic Cemetery.

Bill was born June 8, 1932, to William F. and Ethel Hazel (Sommerville) Baker in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended Woodside, Amos Hiatt and Des Moines Tech Graduating in 1950 before joining the United States Navy.

After service in the Navy aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard CVA 31 and the USS Pointe Cruz, Bill returned to the Des Moines area before moving to Dallas Center. He lived in Granger for the last 32 years. Bill worked for various mechanical engineering companies including Baker Mechanical and Clapper Corporation, before retiring from West Des Moines Waterworks.

Bill greatly enjoyed his family, friends, western movies, the Chicago Cubs, watching the little league games across the street from his home, and playing golf in his early retirement years.

Bill is survived by his children, Bill (Kelly) Baker and Mike(Vicky) Baker, both of Dallas Center, Debbie(Scott) Belcher of Woodward, Jim Baker of Altoona, Lori Baker of Mitchellville, and Joe (Amy) Liston of Blaine, MN; 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and his siblings, Lois Brannick of Dallas Center and Marvin (Mary) Baker of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Nancy, his son Paul Liston, granddaughter Melissa Davis, his parents, and his sisters Mary Reece and Ethel Kellogg.

Family will greet visitors at Iles Funeral Homes- Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center on Friday August 23, from 5-7 p.m.
