Funeral services for Mrs. Joy E. Acker, 63, wife of Arleigh M. Acker who died suddenly at her home near Wiota Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the Roland funeral home. The Rev. Woodrow H. Hawn of the Wiota Methodist church and Rev. M. B. Summerbell of the Knoxville Methodist church will officiate and interment will be in the Atlantic cemetery.
Mrs. Acker, the daughter of Henry A. and Otley Baker Wissler, was born a falf mile west of Fletcher Chapel Dec. 11, 1894 and moved with her parents to a mile and a half southeast of Wiota when a small girl. She attended Bear Grove and Franklin township rural schools and graduated from the Wiota high school in 1911. Following the death of her mother in 1915, she kept house for her father until her marriage to Mr. Acker at the home of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Beekman of Atlantic, Jan. 25, 1922. They have lived since on the same farm southeast of Wiota, except for two years they lived south of Anita. Mrs. Acker was a member of the Wiota Methodist church and Siota Rebecah lodge.
Surviving besides the husband are a daughter, Mardell, wife of the Rev. Lester J. Hancock of Lanesboro and five grandchildren. A son, Donald Marvyn Acker, was killed Aug. 1, 1952 and she was preceded in death by a brother, Claude Wissler, in 1928.
