|Birth: ||Nov. 2, 1778|
|Death: ||Sep. 26, 1859|
Son of Lt. John Crosier and Fanna Whiting Crosier.
John Crosier, Junior, born 2 November 1778 in Dedham, Norfolk, Massachusetts and baptized 15 November 1778 in the same place, died 26 September 1859 in his 81st year, in Peru, Berkshire, Massachusetts, and was buried in Center Cemetery, Peru, Berkshire, Massachusetts. He was received into the Peru Congregational Church on 22 May 1808.
In 1801 in Dorchester, Suffolk, Massachusetts he married Susanna Randal. She was born December 31, 1777 in Milton, Norfolk, Massachusetts. On June 5 1808 she was received into the Peru Congregational Church. She died 8 December 1843 from pleurisy in Peru, Berkshire, Massachusetts and rests beside her husband in Center Cemetery, Peru, Massachusetts.
According to the Minutes of the Congregational Church where John attended, he evidently was a man of strong convictions. On different occasions he clashed with the Minister who was just as determined. The latter notified John he was not tithing enough; John felt he was paying all he could afford, but he was told to tithe more. When he refused, he was excommunicated. Then his name later came up for review, but John held fast to his position. Over a period of time, several more felt and acted the same with their own convictions. One day it came time for the Ministers to move on as their itineraries showed. Shortly after, the new Minister called in all those who were so called "delinquent" in tithing and all were re-instated, except John. He refused to join until a full public apology was made.
Out of a family of ten children, he and his brother Joseph were the only two who remained in Berkshire County all their lives. John passed his life on his farm at Peru, Massachusetts. He and his wife had six daughters and a son. Most of their descendants remained in the old Bay State.
Second Marriage: 18 December 1844 in the Congregational Church, Becket, Berkshire, MA to Ruth Osborn (nee Chapman), born in 1790 in CT, a daughter of William Chapman of East Hartford, CT. She died in the month of May 1869 in Becket, MA.
Ruth was residing in Otis, MA at the time she married John. On 2 January 1845 she brought her letter of transfer from the Becket Church to the Church in Peru.
John, Susanna and probably Ruth are buried in Center Cemetery, Peru, Berkshire, Massachusetts.
