David H. Brofee, 69, of Windham, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer with his family by his side.
He was born in Portland on Jan. 9, 1943, the son of the late Linwood "Jake" and Merle (Cousins) Brofee. He grew up in Gorham and graduated in 1961 from Gorham High School.
Dave served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman in Korea during the Vietnam War.
David was a professional truck driver for more than 40 years. He worked for Merrill's Transportation, Sanborn's, APA, Concord Trailways and Crown Lift Trucks, retiring in April of 2005.
Dave loved camping, hunting, traveling, boating, snowmobiling, motorcycling and dancing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Recently, he and his wife treated their entire family to Disney for a family vacation for Christmas. Most will remember his smile and his way of making friends wherever he went.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Cynthia Hoyt.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marilyn (Boulter) Brofee, his two daughters, Patricia Austin and husband Adam, Carolyn Smith and husband Tom, a son, Stephen Brofee and his wife Corrina and six grandchildren, Dylan and Brooke Brofee and Aja, Molly, Charlotte and Savannah Austin.
His funeral was held at Dolby & Dorr Funeral Chapel, Gorham, with burial in the Eastern Cemetery, Gorham.
