Dr. Daniel Abels, Pathologist, Dies In LA at 41

Dr. Daniel W. Abels, Sacramental clinical pathologist died yesterday in the Veterans Administration Center in Los Angeles.

Dr. Ables, 41, had conducted a pathology practice in Sacramento since the Korean War. He lived at 6500 Fordham way.

A native of Los Angeles Dr. Abels was graduated from the University of California medical school in San Francisco in 1942.

He was a medical officer in the Asiatic Pacific area during World War II and after the war conducted his pathology residency in the veteran hospital in Los Angeles.

He returned to active duty during the Korean War as chief of pathology on the USS Repose. He received the United Nations service medal, Korean service medal and the national defense service medal.

He was on the executive board of the Sacramento County Medical Society and was a member of the California Medical Association, the pathology association, the American Medical Association and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

Dr. Abels is survived by his wife, Marie, and a daughter, Alicia, both of Sacramento; his mother, Sophie Abels of Los Angeles, and a brother, Larry Abels, also of Los Angeles.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow in the chapel of Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles. The family requests any remebrances be given to the Sacramento County Cancer Society
