SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN

Benjamin Franklin Anderson was born January 1st, 1873 in McDonough County, Illinois. His parents were Edwin R. Anderson (born in Schyler Co., IL) and Victoria McFarland (born in Kentucky).

MILITARY RECORD:
Enlisted October 6, 1896 at Ft. Sheridan. He served with Company "H", 15th Infantry. Discharged October 5, 1899 at Ft. Puerpoprincipe, Cuba. [He had two more enlistments not detailed on his application.]

He married Emma on November 11, 1905.

Mr. Anderson applied for admission to the Washington Veterans' Home at the age of 69 in 1942. He had been a resident of the state since August 1918, residing in Seattle from August 1918 to 1936 and Fragaria [Port Orchard] from 1936 to date. He was receiving a $60 government pension. Mr. Anderson was approved for admittance to the Home on September 30, 1942.

Mr. Franklin died on September 13, 1963 at the Home Hospital in Retsil. Pendleton-Gilchrest were in charge of funeral arrangements. He was survived by his wife Emma and son, Art Anderson; daughters Sybil Paetke and Constance Abbott. He was cremated and buried at the Veterans Home Cemetery.
