Nellie, daughter of William and Ann Richardson, was born west of Jacksonville, in the Point neighborhood, March 25, 1859.
When a young girl, she moved with her parents to Jacksonville, and there on September 4, 1879, she was united in marriage with James Adams. A new home was waiting for them about seven miles northwest of Waverly. Three years later they bought the farm so long the homestead in Maxwell township, a pioneer home of the kind that has made our country great. Ten years ago they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Adams were active members in the old Providence Presbyterian church, and the community life. For some time past Mrs. Adams had been a member of First Methodist Church in this city.
Mrs. Adams is survived by two children, Clarence Adams, and Mrs. Mae Brown, both of near Waverly. She also leaves five grandchildren, and one great grandson. Mr. Adams preceded her in death November 10, 1937.
She was the last of a family of nine girls and one boy. An interesting fact about her family was that her parents were neighbor children in England. Both families moved to the Jacksonville community when it was a small village. Three sisters married three brothers in these two families. Mrs. Adams had inherited all of the best of this pioneer spirit - all who knew her noted her optimism. No matter what her feelings she tried to be cheerful, and she was by nature very kind. Her family have the sympathy of a great number who knew and loved their mother.
Funeral services were held at the First Methodist church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, in charge of the pastor, Rev. D. K. Sailor.
