Walker Lake Bulletin, 6/10/1904: Wm. Hoopes, for many years a resident of Aurora and Sweetwater, committed suicide in Bodie last Sunday by taking cyanide solution. No cause is known for the commission of the rash act. He was a native of Wisconsin, aged 49 years.

Bridgeport Chronicle-Union, 6/11/1904: Wm. Hoops, well known to all old residents of Aurora, committed suicide in Bodie, last Saturday, by drinking cyanide of potassium. He was buried from the Methodist Church, Monday morning. He leaves a number of relatives in Nevada and Bodie. He was a brother of Mrs. Dennis Thompson.
