Father Michael Woznick, who was born on March 26, 1946 in Skakopee, Minnesota, entered the Conventual Franciscan Novitiate of Our Lady of Consolation in Auburn, Indiana in 1946, and was ordained a priest in 1972. He served as Associate Pastor in Chicago Heights and Terra Haute until he came to California to teach at Bishop Montgomery High School in Torrance in 1979. He was an immediate hit with the seniors to whom he taught the Christian Marriage course. In 1981, when the friars in California became a new Province of the Franciscan Order, Father Michael asked and received permission of his home Province in Indiana to be a part of the new venture. He found a home and great acceptance among the people and the friars at Our Lady of Guadalupe parish in Hermosa Beach following his illness, and continued to serve as a hospital chaplain. He died on March 29, 1999, just three days after celebrating his 53rd birthday. Father Michael's body was brought to Arroyo Grande for burial among the remains of the other friars buried in the Province Cemetery.
