She was born on Dec. 18, 1928, in Portales to Alma (Traylor) and J. D. Marlow.
She graduated from Portales High School in 1945. She attended classes at Eastern New Mexico University and married Billy Joe George on June 14, 1946. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church and belonged to the Portales Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and White Shrine. While she was employed by ENMU as secretary to the dean of education, she resumed her college classes as a student. She married Ray Ashbrook on July 13, 1969, and moved to his family ranch and farm in the Lingo community. They were avid square dancers. She was a member of the Causey Homemakers Club and began oil painting as a hobby. Family members said she was talented, and received several ribbons at the county fair for her work. She became a Pink Lady for the Roosevelt General Hospital Auxiliary and enjoyed preparing goodies for their bake sales.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter, Kayla George; a grandson, Billy Joe George II.
Survivors include a son Phillip George (and wife, Marlene) of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandsons Phillip Wayne George II (Mychelle) of Amarillo and Scott Elliot (Bernadette) of San Antonio, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Garrett, Grace and Gaige George and Justyn, Aaron and Kaylah Elliott; a brother, Ron Marlow (Jean) of Amarillo; and two nieces, a nephew and cousins
Scott P. Reeves will officiate the services.
Burial is at Causey Cemetery.
