CUMBERLAND,MARYLAND -- Robert Gilmore Africa, 84, of Cumberland, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Golden Living Center.
Born March 22, 1926, in Cumberland, Mr. Africa was the son of the late Samuel Blythe Africa and Clara Virginia (Easton) Africa. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marie F. Africa, April 15, 2000.
A United States Army veteran of World War II, Bob retired as Assistant Manager for Peoples Drug Store. He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church and the Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Patricia M. Sweitzer and her husband, Donald, Cumberland, and Mary E. Ball and her husband, John, Raleigh, N.C.; his brother, Samuel Africa, Corriganville; his grandchildren, Marc K. Ball and Lauren A. Ball, both of Raleigh; and his step-grandsons, Donald L. Sweitzer Jr., Midland, and Daniel G. Sweitzer, Bedford, Pa.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Sunday, March 13, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lee Brotemarkle officiating.
Interment will be at the Maryland State Veterans' Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
