CLYDE WOODROW ANKENEY, JR., 76, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Sept. 11, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 14, 1937, in Charlton, Md., he was the son of the late Clyde Woodrow Ankeney Sr. and Catherine Pauline Shupp Ankeney.
Clyde was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War.
He was retired after 17 years from Letterkenny Army Depot, giving him more than 35 years of government service.
He was a 1955 graduate of Oldtown (Md.) High School.
Clyde was a member of the Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84 of Williamsport, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6241 of Mercersburg, Pa., AMVETS Post 224 of Chambersburg, Pa., the Marine Corps League of Chambersburg, The Loyal Order of Moose 1790 and the American Legion Post 0046.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, JoAnn Nixon Ankeney of Hagerstown; three daughters, Pam Robinson and husband, Greg, of Oldtown, Debbie Mills and husband, Tony, and Kim Hose and husband, Charlie, all of Clear Spring, Md.; three sisters, Jane E. Shupp and Nellie M. Miller, both of Hagerstown, Md., and Lois Crabtree of Big Pool, Md.; one brother, Howard "Jack" Ankeney of Bradenton, Fla.; five grandchildren, Ashley N. Hose of Clear Spring, Jeremy L. Robinson of Cumberland, Md., Cory W. Mills of Clear Spring, Jesse L. Robinson of Oldtown and Karlie R. Mundey of Clear Spring; two great-grandchildren, Blake Thompson and Easton Robinson; and beloved dog, Gus Gus.
In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by a son, Clyde Woodrow Ankeney III; two brothers, Douglas M. Ankeney and Robert P. Ankeney; and a granddaughter, Natasha N. Ankeney.
Services will be held Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Steven McCarty will officiate. Interment will follow at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery of Flintstone, Md., at 1 p.m. with military honors.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends, you may visit the funeral home after noon on Sunday.
