E. Louise Barton, 90, of St. Joseph, passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Carriage Square Health Care Center.

Louise was born on June 1, 1926, in Maryville, Missouri, to the late George and Hazel (Sheley) Neff.

She was a graduate of Maryville High School. During her school years, she was employed part time with Rush Printing Company and Poland China Hog Association.

She was also employed by Maryville Light and Power Company, Citizens State Bank, Maryville City Hall, Bessie Ellison School and Gray Manufacturing.

Louise married Sterling Henry Barton on December 16, 1967. He passed away on May 15, 2005.

Louise was P.T.A. president for two years at Blair School and active in the Cub Scouting program, serving as den mother.

She was a past member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority receiving the Order of the Rose ritual completing 25 years of attendance.

Louise was an active member of the St. Joseph Garden Club and volunteered her secretarial duties for St. Joseph Parks and Recreation.

Both Louise and her late husband, Sterling, volunteered their services in maintaining the Lura M. Story Sitting Park on Ashland Avenue. She was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents and husband, Louise is preceded in death by a sister Betty Wiltz.

Surviving family includes: a daughter, Jody B. Hicklin, Kansas City, Missouri; and son, Michael N. Johnson, Kansas City, Missouri; a sister, Pat Nymand; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Service 10 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2017, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph.

Interment: Blakely Cemetery in Easton, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday evening at our chapel.
