Daniel, a resident of Hernandez, passed away surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his parents, Sofia and Aurelio Salazar; sisters: Rose Manzanares and Lola Martinez; and a very special nephew whom he helped raise, Luis Martinez.

Daniel was survived by his wife of 47 years, Clorinda Salazar; daughter, Diane Trujillo(Marvin); sons: Danny (Melanie) and David Salazar (Doni) all of Hernandez; Vicky Garcia, who was like a daughter (Jerry); and 10 grandchildren: Cassandra Martinez (Juan), Danielle Trujillo, Bryana, Jolene (Juan) and Branden and Maribel Salazar, Tiana (Tim) and Devon Salazar, Crystal, Angel and Ashley Garcia; 8 great-grandchildren; a very special nephew who he helped raise and loved dearly, Juan Martinez; special nieces: Lola Maestas (Chris), Ivy and Vida Martinez, Jane Sandoval, Irene Romero and Rosita Martinez; a very close and dear sister-in-law, Antonia Garcia and a special brother-in-law, Joe Mansanares; brothers-in-law: Abelino Velasquez and wife Priscilla, Gomesindo Velasquez; very close and dear primas, Angie Salazar, Cres Sanchez; many other special family and friends whom he loved to stay in touch with.

Daniel retired after 25 years of service from Los Alamos Public Schools. Daniel loved helping people and was such a caring soul. He was a devoted church member of El Buen Pastor Church and New Hope Family Worship Center. He had a passion for his apple orchard and enjoyed the outdoors. He enjoyed the beauty of the mountains and hauling wood. Daniel also loved to bring a tone of happy songs by playing his harmonica for a birthday gathering or just because. His family meant the world to him and he loved spending time together with them, and always praying for them.

Public visitation and a devotional service were on May 17, 2011 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel at DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Funeral Service was on May 18, 2011 at New Hope Family Worship Center in El Llano. Burial followed at Templo Zion Cemetery in Hernandez. Pallbearers: Chris Maestas, Juan Martinez, Manuel Garcia, Brandon Salazar, Devon Salazar and Jerry Garcia.
