Estelle was born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1909, in Wenatchee, WA, the 5th of 6 children of Charles and Minta Rice. In 1928 she married Ray Ridge and they made their home in Tonasket, WA, later moving to Portland, Seattle, and finally in 1942 to Tacoma. Ray Ridge died in 1964. In 1972 she married Stan Anderson, who died in 1985. Estelle was active in the Tacoma community, contributing generously of her time and talents to many organizations including Faith Home, The Tacoma Orthopedic Association, Mary Bridge Childrens' Hospital and Christ Episcopal Church, where she worshipped for more than 50 years. She also reproduced hundreds of Icons, which were sold to benefit Three Cedars, a home for persons living with AIDS. She was a gifted artist, painting, sculpting, designing and making her own clothing. She also made her own shoes and taught shoemaking in local community colleges. In 1965 she joined the Peace Corps and taught sewing to women in prison in Venezuela. She was a world traveller and collector of beautiful things, with a particular love of Asian art and artifacts. Her home and family were her greatest love and she was a caring and beloved friend to many. Her sense of humor, her independent spirit and her strong faith were a source of inspiration to those who knew her. Her family especially thanks her caregivers at Franke Tobey Jones.
