Carleton Howard Shannon
Passed away 03/26/09 in Arcata, CA, at Mad River Community Hospital. He was a native and resident of Arcata. Carleton was born in Eureka, CA, to Theodore and Esther Shannon.
Carl (lovingly called Cat by friends and family) was born in Eureka, CA, on January 16, 1940. As a young man he grew up in the Fort Bragg area, attending Fort Bragg High School. Carl served in the US Army from 1962 - 1965. He was stationed at White Sands Missile Range as well as Germany where he met the mother of his five sons. In 1973 he met and later married his surviving spouse, Linda Wollin. Before and after his military career he worked at various places including working in the woods with his father at the young age of 13. He later drove bus and truck for various companies including Greyhound, LA Eureka Lines, Sierra Pacific, Customer Truck & Coach Service, and later owned and operated Customer Coachways with Richard Chiaudano. Carl retired just this last November. Needless to say, he will he missed!
Survived by spouse, Linda Shannon; children (and spouses), Corey Shannon, David and Christy Shannon, Willy Shannon, Philip Shannon, Robert and Nikki Shannon, Sonja Harlow; brothers and sisters (and spouses), Ted and Rosalie Shannon, Bill Shannon, Laura Gibney; grandchildren, Jesse Wollin, Justin Shannon, Emily Shannon, Johnny Shannon, Corey Shannon Jr., Tony Shannon, Stephanie Shannon-Fleischman, Taylor Pearson, Whitney Shannon, Taylor Shannon, Ryan Shannon, Rosalie Shannon, Andy Harlow, Sophy Harlow, Ashley Forest, Jeramy Vittori; and great grandchildren-- two on the way! Nieces and nephews, Ted, Clay, John, Patricia, Brad, Cindy, Carla, Rachel, Rhonda, James, Laurie, and various great nieces and nephews. Extended family, Terri and Dennis Ryan, Richard and Jessie Chiaudano, Jackie Schultz-Still.
Preceded by Theodore (father) and Dolly (step-mother) Shannon, Esther (mother) and Walter (step-father) WeIch, Trudy Crook (sister), Russ Gibney (brother-in-law), Laura Vittori (step-daughter), Ron Wollin Jr. (step-son), Kathan Fleischman (great grandson), Susan Horner (biological mother of Corey, David, Willy, Phil, and Robert).
A get-together (pot luck) to share memories of Carl will be held at Carlotta Country Occasions at noon on April 4th, 2009. They are located 7.2 miles east on Highway 36, on the left 100 yards past Shamus BBQ (watch for signs).
