Francis Patterson, born in 1841, and his two sons, Arthur and York A. settled in the 1890's on the South side of Cotton Creek about two and one-half miles North of Copan and one-half East. They were Cherokee Freedmen. When the Indian Territory was surveyed and the freedmen were given allotments, Francis Patterson and his son York A. were allotted land where they lived. However the son, Arthur was not allotted land in this area, possibly because he had died before allotments were made.
