Asa Allen was a civic minded man, involving himself in countless town committees and functions. He often sang in musical events in town. He was a successful lawyer, practicing on Milk Street in Boston. Mr. Allen owned a home on Foster Road in Ashby and also lived in the outskirts of Boston.
He was a baseball enthusiast. Locally, he may be best remembered for securing land on West Road, for the purpose of a baseball field. Originally, this property was known as "Breed's Field", later "Asa Allen Field". Currently, it's known simply as "Allen Field", where there are now 3 baseball fields, a grandstand, a playground, 'cook shack' and a bandstand. This is also the site of the popular "Ashby Bonfire", held every year on July 3rd.
Many generations of children, from Ashby and surrounding communities, have enjoyed Asa Allen's generosity.
