YORK Theodore E. "Spike" Carpenter, 89, died Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the Brethren Home in New Oxford. He was the husband of the late Marion V. "Tootie" Carpenter. He was employed as an assembler with York International for 40 years retiring in 1986. Theodore was a U.S. Army Air Corp Veteran having served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He was a member of Dover Bethany United Methodist Church where he also served on the administrative board. Theodore was a life member of the Rescue Fire Co., Rex Fire Co. and Dover Township Fire Co. Other memberships include the Laurel Fire Co., the Borg Warner 25 year club, V.F.W. Post #5865, American Legion Post #791, Victory Athletic Assoc. and Viking Athletic Assoc. Born in York, on August 13, 1923, he was the son of the late Edward R. Carpenter. Sr. and Evelyn M. (Shue) Carpenter. He leaves a daughter, Susan C. Altland and her husband, D. James, of Wellsville; two grand daughters, Heather Hamilton of Wrightsville and Amber Lytle and her husband, Chris, of Lewistown; and a brother, Robert F. Carpenter of York. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Rider and Jean Rider, and a brother, Edward Carpenter, Jr. Viewing will be 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Koller Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 2000 W. Market St. in York. The service will follow on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be the Reverend Sal Buonocore with burial in Dover Bethany Cemetery. The York County Veterans Honor Guard will perform military rites. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association , 3544 N.
