Simpson C. Bennett, 86, resident of Deming and former resident of Columbus, passed away Sunday September 17, 2006 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital in Deming.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 23, 2006 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Columbus with Brother Junior Powell officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Valley Heights Cemetery in Columbus.

Simpson was born December 28, 1919 in Arkansas. He was veteran of the United States Navy and was retired from Ford Motor Company where he had worked for 30 years. At the time of his retirement he was a crane operator. He married Diane Gile in 1990 and later moved to Columbus, New Mexico in 1995 where he was a member of the American Legion and the Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Diane E. Bennett of Deming; two sons, Paul Bennett of Taylor, MI, Donald Bennett of Reed City, MI; a daughter, Rose Lackner of St. George, UT; two sisters, Naomi Kulick of Dearborn, MI, Madie Takacs of Plymouth, MI; nine grandchildren; and six stepchildren, Don Temple of Silver City, Carolyn Ross of Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte Wittie of Andover, NY, Jimmy Temple of Nyack, NY, Ramona Leyba and Mark Temple of Rio Rancho, NM.
