Margaret Ann Bechdol, 80, Twelve Mile, died at 12:43 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas.
She was born July 10, 1930, in Pulaski County to Milo Bonnell and Muriel Penny. She was married to Clarence M. Bechdol on Dec. 10, 1950, in Star City.
Margaret began work at national Steel in Logansport and later worked for Stewart Gast Law Firm in Winamac as a secretary.
Margaret was a former bookkeeper working in several Cass County government offices. She first worked in the Treasurer's Office under her brother-in-law, Forrest Montgomery, for eight years and for Randy Lanning for an additional eight years. She was elected Cass County Treasurer where she served two terms. Margaret was appointed Cass County Surveyor and served three years. She also served four years as Cass County Drainage Board secretary.
Margaret was a 1948 graduate of Star City High School and 1949 graduate of Cosmetology School in Fort Wayne. She was a member of the V.F.W. Post 3790 Ladies Auxiliary, Bethlehem Township Extension Homemakers and Cass County Home Extension Club where she had served as president.
Surviving are daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Herrold and husband, Mark, Twelve Mile; sons, Michael Bechdol and wife, Ruth Ann, Cedar Hill, Texas, and John Patrick Bechdol and wife, Liz, Cornelius, N.C.; sister, Alice Montgomery and husband, Forrest, Fort Myers, Fla.; brothers, Argel Bonnell, Chandler, Ariz., Howard Bonnell and Wayne Bonnell and wife, Mary Lou, all of Star City; grandchildren, Justin Herrold and wife, Alicia, Logansport, Amanda Moon and husband, Josh, Fort Wayne, Stacy Herrold and fiancée, Andrea Vachon, New Haven, John Patrick Bechdol Jr., Atlanta, Ga., James Bechdol, Cornelius, N.C., Jordan Bechdol, Oklahoma City, Emily Bechdol, Tyler, Texas and Zachary Bechdol, Cedar Hill, Texas; great-grandchildren, Alexsa Herrold and Makayla and Maddox Moon; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Zimmerman and husband, Gene, Logansport; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by son, Joe Bechdol; one brother; and three sisters.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Gundrum Funeral Home with the Rev. George Hapner officiating.
Burial will be in Bethlehem Methodist Cemetery, Twelve Mile.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
