Ruth Bingham Berger, age 68, of Janesville, WI, passed away at her home on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, of brain cancer. She was born March 29, 1947, in Janesville, WI, the daughter of Charles Elton and Ruth Constance (Shaw) Bingham. Ruth married Robert Berger on July 6, 1968, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Milton. Ruth graduated from Milton Union High School in 1964, attended UW-Whitewater, and graduated from Madison Business College. She worked as an accountant at the Janesville Gazette/Bliss Communications for 35 years until her retirement in 2015. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Milton, for 47 years and sang in the church choir, directed by her husband, Bob. She also sang in the alto section of Choral Union for 20 years. She was a Broadway musical aficionado and enjoyed supporting her children’s and grandchildren’s many artistic endeavors. Ruth was an avid reader and an expert in grammar, crossword puzzles, and other word games. She also enjoyed sewing, cross-stitch, and her book club. She had an encyclopedic memory and took pride in recounting her family’s history. Ruth and Bob enjoyed their vacations to Alaska and Hawaii, many visits to Arizona, and various day trips around the Midwest. Ruth was involved with Roosevelt 4-H Club for several years, serving as a board member and co-directing many drama productions. She also served on the parent board of the Green Beret Marching Band and was a frequent chaperone for their parades and performances.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Robert Berger of Janesville; three children: Anne (Brian) Vanderbloemen of Madison, WI, Aaron (Jennifer) and Adam (Jennifer), both of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren: Rachel (18), Suzy (15), Kayla (12), Katie (10), Charlie (5), Max (4), and Nate (4 months); one sister, Holly (David) Alexander of Fountain Hills, AZ; one brother, Steven (Nancy) Bingham of Alpine, AZ; two brothers-in-law, Bill (Glenda) of Janesville, and Paul (Lori) of Fort Worth, TX; one sister-in-law, Mary (Bertha Voigt) Berger of Madison; 15 nieces; 10 nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Charles “Chick” and Betty (Kane) Bingham; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lois “Mimi” and Herbert Briggs; her sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Jack Hays; her nephew, Dan Bingham; and her father- and mother-in-law, Fred and Rose Berger.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Milton, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, with Father Dave Timmerman officiating. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery in Milton, will follow the service.
