Some few days ago Albert Powell, a colored lad, stole a lot of silver spoons from the residence of his employer, John H. Adams, on Massachusetts Avenue.

Upon being accused, Powell confessed the theft and took Mr Adams to the place where the property was concealed. The place in question is an underground hovel in the commons north of the City Hospital, which was found occupied by four women and three men, all colored.

The place is a most miserable den, has no surface indications of being a habitation, and is apparently the resort of vile and dangerous characters. It should be destroyed by police authority.

As soon as the property was recovered Powell was arrested, and was yesterday committed for trial in the Criminal Court.
