Roy Castillo, of Counselor, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2009, in Shiprock. He was 75.
Castillo was born Feb. 15, 1934, in Counselor. He enjoyed gardening and he planted corn and squash every spring. He took care of his livestock, which included goat, sheep and a llama.
He also built his own home and hogans. He was best known for his talented gift at inventing and improving various things in and around his homestead. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years before he retired.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George Castillo and DoPah Chiquito; brother, Ted Castillo; and sister, Lillie Haines.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie J. Castillo; daughters, Laura C. Lopez, Lula Castillo, Lolita Tapaha, Beula Pete, Beverly Haceesa, Sabrina Castillo; sons, Rex Castillo and Roland Castillo; brothers, Steven Charlie, Paul Castillo Sr., Jimmy Castillo; sister, Nora Castillo; 19 grandchildren and
Services officiated by Pastor Tully Butler take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Cedar Hill Church in Counselor. Interment is at Counselor Mission Cemetery.
