Jose C. "El Zapatero" Acosta, 86, a boot and shoe maker for 63 years, entered life eternal Thursday at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born July 6, 1906, in Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico, to the late Macario and Jovita Zavala Acosta. A communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church in Bayard,he was also active in the League of Sacred Heart, Club Benito Juarez, Sagrada Familia and Familia Christiana. Calling hours will start at 6 Sunday evening at Baca's Funeral Chapels with the prayer vigil beginning at 7. Deacon Bill Holguin will recite the rosary. The funeral liturgy will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Bayard. The Rev. Paulus Kao will be the celebrant. The rite of committal will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery in Silver City. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Jovita and Jorge Garcia of Montebello, Calif., Lucille and Reginald Chavez of El Paso, Texas, and Esther and Arthur Murillo of Silver City; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Epitacio Acosta of Mexico City; three sisters, Christina Ramirez of Mexico City, Teresa Tovar of Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico and Hermila Morales of Aguas Calientes, Mexico; a sister-in-law, Lucia Espinosa of El Paso; and several nieces and nephews. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels.
