Jane Abel, age 94, of Bridgeport passed away Monday, August 22, 2011 in Lawrenceville at the United Methodist Village- North Campus.
She and her family were preparing for her 95th birthday celebration on Wednesday, August 24. Her parents were Harry and Alice (English) Tingley. She was born in Marshall, IL. Jane was married to Russell Abel for 60 years, and he preceded her in death in May of 1997.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport and the United Methodist Women, taught Sunday school for many years, and was a 55 year member of Chapter AJ, PEO Sisterhood of Bridgeport. Jane was also a loving homemaker to her family.
Surviving family includes: three daughters-Ann Abel of Hutsonville, IL; Carol Gray and husband Bernie of Hutson-ville, IL; and Jacqueline Abel and husband Chris Robertson of Portland, OR: two sons- William "Bill" Abel and wife Elizabeth of Albuquerque, NM and George Abel and wife Charlene of Bridgeport: two brothers- Carl Tingley and wife Dorothy of Hutsonville, IL and Eugene Tingley and wife Margaret Ann of Marshall, IL: twelve grandchildren: fourteen great-grandchildren: and two sisters-in-law- Vernice Tingley and Helen Tingley both of Marshall, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband (Russell Abel), parents, one sister and brother-in-law, and two brothers.
Funeral services for Jane Abel will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Bridgeport City Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Chapter AJ, PEO Sisterhood for their scholarship fund or the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport through the funeral home.
