Robert Arthur Abbott died at his home northwest of Woodland Sunday, March 20 at age 83.

Mr. Abbott was born June 14, 1921 in Ames, Iowa. He had been a Yolo County resident for 70 years. He graduated from Davis High School in 1939 and attended UC Davis for two years. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943 and flew B-24 Liberators in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he continued his education at UCD, graduating from the college of agriculture in 1948. He worked for the University of Hawaii Ag Economics Extension Program. He returned to the state to get his Master of Science and Ag Economics degrees in 1953 and later worked for the Sacramento County Agricultural Advisor. He worked for the California Department of Agriculture in the dairy industry for 35 years until his retirement in 1985. He was also a Beta Phi/Kappa Sigma fraternity advisor in the 1960s and was one of the founding members of the Capitol City Bird Society.

Survivors include Mr. Abbott's wife, [redacted for privacy], his daughters, [redacted] his son, [redacted]; his stepchildren, [redacted]; grandchildren, [redacted]; two great-granddaughters; his nieces, [redacted] and his nephews, [redacted]. He was preceded in death by his sister, Irene Abbott and his brother, Fred Abbott Jr.

The family requests memorials in Mr. Abbott's name be directed to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, 95617 or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Services: Respecting the wishes of Mr. Abbott, no services are scheduled. A family celebration will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Monument Hill Cemetery. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
